Talensi District Mobilizes for National Sanitation Day.

BlueWaves Radio reports from Talensi District as residents mark National Sanitation Day on Saturday, October 4, 2025. The nationwide initiative, instituted by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, directs communities to observe the first Saturday of every month with active sanitation clean-up efforts. The goal is to promote a cleaner Ghana, reduce preventable deaths from communicable diseases, and cut government health costs through positive attitudinal shifts toward cleanliness.
In line with the President’s directive, crowds gathered across the district to undertake vigorous cleaning at priority sites, including the Tongo Market Square, the main thoroughfare leading to the market, and other designated locations identified for the exercise.

Addressing participants at the close of the activities, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. John Millim Nabwomya, extended heartfelt thanks on behalf of the President for the overwhelming turnout and dedication shown by market women, youth groups, community organizations, assembly workers, and other stakeholders.
Hon. Nabwomya conveyed fraternal greetings and solidarity messages from key regional and national figures, specifically the Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Donatus Akamugre Atanga, and the Member of Parliament for Talensi Constituency, Hon. Daniel Dung Mahama. Both officials were not able to attend due to other pressing national assignments.
In his remarks, the DCE underscored the importance of maintaining clean surroundings not only on National Sanitation Day but also through everyday practices at home and in workplaces. He reminded residents that a clean environment is essential for the health of the ecosystem and the well-being of the entire community.
Other speakers at the event included representatives from market associations, youth groups, women’s groups, and various community organizations, who reiterated the collective responsibility to sustain the gains achieved during the clean-up.
BlueWaves Radio will continue to monitor sanitation efforts across Talensi and provide updates on how residents integrate these practices into daily life, ensuring that the momentum from National Sanitation Day translates into lasting improvements for the district.
