A devastating fire erupted at Zunwarungu Nursing Training College, destroying five hostels that housed newly admitted students. Fortunately, according to Jonah Ayamba, Interim President of the Zunwarungu NYC Alumni, no students were injured in the incident. The fire, which started between 10 and 11 a.m., left students heartbroken as they lost most of their personal belongings. Thankfully, the students were not in the hostels at the time of the fire, and the only items they have left are those they had with them.

Jonah Ayamba commended the fire service personnel for their quick response in tackling the blaze. He also confirmed that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire. The school is currently making arrangements to provide temporary accommodation for the affected students, and an appeal has been made to the general public and well-wishers for support in providing shelter for these students.

Insights from the Fire Service

DO2 Nibunu Clallistus, Regional PRO for the Ghana Fire Service, shared insights on the incident. He noted that the fire had spread significantly before being reported. The fire service arrived promptly at 12:15 p.m. and worked to extinguish the flames, concluding their efforts around 2 to 3 p.m.

While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, DO2 Clallistus mentioned that electrical issues are a common cause of such outbreaks. He advised students to avoid bringing prohibited electrical gadgets into the school, as they pose a significant fire risk. Additionally, he urged school authorities to strengthen measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
