During a recent event organized by the Ghana Think Foundation, known as Barcamp, Fati Abigail Abdulai, the Executive Director of Windows and Orphans Movement (WOM), shared pivotal insights about the importance of involving spouses in property decisions. The ninth edition of Barcamp attracted over 300 youth from the Upper East Region, gathering them at the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) premises for mentorship and guidance from experts in diverse fields, including academia, agriculture, banking, sports, and research.

In her address, Madam Abdulai passionately encouraged young men to actively involve their wives in property acquisition and management. She voiced her concerns about the potential challenges families may face if significant property decisions are made unilaterally. “Involve your wife in your property decisions as a young man,” she emphasized. “If you’re no longer there, your family will struggle without that joint planning.” Her words resonated deeply with the audience, highlighting the critical role of partnership in securing a stable financial future for families.

Moreover, Madam Abdulai expressed a broader vision for her organization. Rather than simply addressing the needs of widows and orphans, she aims to prevent the circumstances that lead to such situations. She passionately believes that if families are prosperous and well-supported, there would be no need for additional assistance for widows and orphans.

She also drew attention to her concerns about the alarming death rate among men in the region compared to women, which has profound implications for family structures and community support. Her call to action was clear: proactive measures must be taken to improve health outcomes and reduce mortality rates, ultimately ensuring a safer and more prosperous environment for all families in the region.
